An Improved Frequency Estimator for Single Sinusoid Signal
An improved frequency estimator (CFI-Kay) is proposed. The estimator improves Kays algorithm by autocorrelation, FFT and interpolation, digital heterodyne, decimation, linear prediction..The estimator has a significantly reduced threshold relative to the existing methods and mean-squared error (MSE) close to that of maximum likelihood estimation (MLE). In addition, the MSE is within 0.2 dB of the Cramér- Rao bound (CRB) at signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) above threshold. The performance of CFI-Kay algorithm is uniform across a frequency range of -π to π. Moreover, the increased computational complexity of the new estimator is acceptable
