EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION ON THE CHARACTERISTICS OF NANOFLUIDS PCMS FOR COOL STORAGE

Low thermal conductivity is a primary limitation in the development of energy-efficient heat transfer fluids required in thermal energy storage applications. To overcome this limitation, a new sorts of heat transfer fluids is being developed by suspending 0.167, 0.283,0.565 and 1.13 vol.% of TiO2 nanoparticles in saturated BaCl2 aqueous solution. The resulting nanofluids possess remarkably high thermal conductivities compared to the liquids without dispersed nanoparticles. Cool storage experiment made in a small apparatus also verified the excellent thermal properties of nanofluids. The cool storage rate and cool storage capacity increase remarkably than that of BaCl2 aqueous solution without added nanoparticles.
