NUMERICAL INVESTIGATION ON ADJUSTING THE ASYMMETRICAL DISTRIBUTION OF THAW BULB UNDER THE ROADBED IN PERMAFROST REGIONS WITH INCLINED INSERTED THERMOSYPHONS
In order to decrease the hazards of longitudinal cracks of roadbed coupled with vertical inserted thermosyphons in Qinghai-Tibet railway, it is very significant to investigate the insertion mode of thermosyphons. The previous vertical insertion mode of thermosyphons in Qinghai-Tibet railway is changed into inclined insertion mode, the comparative investigations on the two different insertion modes are done numerically based on the three-dimensional transient phase change heat transfer governing equations. The results indicate that the symmetry of the thaw bulb under the roadbed is affected by the insertion mode of thermosyphons; the shrinkage of the thaw bulb in the roadbed coupled with inclined inserted thermosyphons is approximately symmetrical, while that in the roadbed coupled with vertical inserted thermosyphons is asymmetrical. Consequently, it is proved that the inclined inserted thermosyphons are more advantageous to adjusting the asymmetry of the thaw bulb than the vertical inserted ones.
