COP IMPROVEMENT BY TRANSFER OF THE SUPERHEATING INTO THE INTERNAL HEAT EXCHANGER
It is well known, that the power consumption of refrigerators is reduced by about 2-3 %, when the evaporation temperature is increased by 1 K. It is proposed to obtain such an increase of the evaporation temperature by a combination of an internal heat exchanger in combination with a thermostatic expansion valve. With this combination it is possible to realize a slightly wet outlet of the low pressure stream out of the evaporator and to transfer the final evaporation and the superheating into the internal heat exchanger. To facilitate a stable control behaviour it is proposed to operate the internal heat exchanger in the co-current mode. The result of this arrangement is a power saving in the 5 to 10% range and a similar increase of the volumetric refrigeration rate. A further increase is possible, if the surface area of the evaporator is increased. This arrangement is advantageous for all refrigerants, even for ammonia, where normally internal heat exchangers are detrimental.
