EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON HIGH CAPACITY FREE PISTON STIRLING COOLER FOR INTERMEDIATE LIFT TEMPERATURES

Compared with conventional vapor compression system, a novel low-temperature fridge based on Stirling Refrigeration cycle, by reason of its high efficiency, green refrigerant, large range of cooling temperature, low starting current and easy capacity modulation operation etc., has remarkable advantages in energy saving and environment protecting. In this paper, a high capacity free piston Stirling cooler (FPSC) was designed to -60℃ low-temperature fridge firstly. To order to study the prototype, a performance test bench was built. Frequency characteristics of the compressor and the expander were investigated in detail. The effects of charged pressure and cooling temperature on the compressor resonance frequency were experimentally tested. Furthermore, the influence relations between the displacement phase shift and the expander natural frequency and its operating frequency were experimentally studied, which indicate that, the less the operating frequency than the expander natural frequency, the larger the phase shift is. The maximum cooling capacity of the prototype can reach 50W at -60℃ when 250W input, while 32W at -60℃ when 150W input at a frequency of 45 Hz under a system average pressure of 1.5 MPa. Principle knowledge of the FPSC is deepened by experimental study on the prototype, which provides new ideas for further improvement research.
