SOLAR ENERGY HEATING AND COOLING EQUIPMENTS DEVELOPMENT IN ALGERIA PERSPECTIVES AND OUTCOMES

Interest in solar energy started half a century ago in our country, but the huge supply and the relatively low cost of oil and natural gas made the development of solar energy applications a quite an impossible task economically. Now, with the new environmental restrictions, the scarcity and the relatively high cost of the fossil energy sources have made that solar energy applications are regaining interest and several research projects are underway. Solar energy potential is very important in Algeria, with a daily average global radiation of 5 to 7 kwh/m2/day in the northern parts of the country. Studies are underway to develop small scale domestic and commercial heating and cooling equipments.
