TREATMENT OF HEMANGIOMA ON THE CHILDRENS HEADS AND FACES WITH FLUID NITROGEN
OBJECTIVE: We frozed 50 patients’ lesions who have hemangioma on their heads and faces with fluid nitrogen from 1.1999 to 1.2004.METHODS: Of all the patients, 40 have strawberry nevus and 10 have cavernous hemangioma, and area<1cm. patients 27 are male and 23 are female, who were aged from 3 months to 10 years old. The mean age is 7 years old. The lesions are all less than 1cm, and the mean is 0.5cm. And the duration ranged from 3 months to 10 years. The fluid nitrogen is produced in Refrigeration Factory of Nanjing University. The size of the cotton club used to contact the lesions in the frozen treatment was selected according to the age of the patients and the depth or dimension of the lesions. The frozen time was 3 to 30 second. The time after the first frozen was regarded as one frozen cycle. Repeated the therapy 15 minutes after the first frozen if blisters was not seen on the lesions. And the Mupirocin cream was used in twice a day in order to prevent the infection.RESULTS: the lesions of 42 patients disappeared completely, that of 4 were improved significantly, and that of 4 were becoming better. And the efficiency ratio was 92%.CONCLUSION: The frozen treatment with fluid nitrogen was safe and effective to children with hemangioma on the faces and heads. And the way was simple to operate and popularize. It is a effective way to treat the small hemagioma at present.Hemangioma is a kind of disease rarely seen in children; cutaneous hemangioma is the benign tumor originated from skin blood vessel and is frequently seen in the skin of head and neck, unusually but can also occur in mucous membrane, liver, brain and muscle. Hemangioma can be observed right at birth or soon after birth. It grows quickly during infancy but stops growing gradually with age sometimes can even fade away. Hemangioma of skin consists of three types: naevus flammeus, strawberry nevus and cavernous hemangioma. In the present study, 40 cases of strawberry nevus and 10 cases of cavernous hemangioma were treated by frozen therapy with fluid nitrogen.
