AN EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION INTO THE EFFECT OF PRE-COOLER ON OPEN-TYPE DISPLAY CABINETS

In order to improve the performance of the open-type refrigerated display cabinets, a super heater was designed as the pre-cooler of the return air. This paper presents the impacts of the pre-cooler on the performance of the refrigerated display cabinets. In this study, the temperature distribution were tested with an open vertical refrigerated display cabinet in a climatic room in accordance with the British standards EN-441. The experimental results showed that the average product temperature was lowered about 1.3℃ and most of the packs were maintained at a temperature below 5℃ even though during defrosting time. Furthermore, the investigation of the frost accumulation revealed that the frost was reduced by 2.9% and this new desing could lead to significant decrease in the cooling load by19.2% as well as improvements in food quality, nevertheless it also lead to little increase in energy consumption by 5.76%.
