DEVELOPMENT OF A NOVEL INDIRECT EVAPORATIVE CHIllER

On the base of the indirect evaporative technique 1, a novel chiller is designed whose driven force is the dry air not electricity. The produced water’s ideal temperature of the chiller is infinitely close to the dew point of the inlet air. First, the configuration and operation principle of the chiller are introduced. Then the mathematical model is presented by which the chiller is designed. The practical indirect evaporative chiller is developed and its actual performance has been tested, which indicates that the temperature of produced cold water is more or less at the middle of the outdoor dew point and wet bulb temperature. In order to sufficiently use the potential of outdoor dry air, a way of cold water’ flow is suggested and the preliminary internal optimal design of the chiller is discussed. Now the novel indirect evaporative chiller has been used in more than ten large public buildings in Sinkiang Province. An outlook of the chiller’s application as it being the high temperature-cooling source in northwest China is given finally.
