EVALUATION ON THE APPLICATION OF R410A IN RESIDENTIAL AIR CONDITIONERS
R410A is a long-term green alternative refrigerant with zero ODP (ozone-depleting-potential) to replace R22. R410A has the good heat transfer and transportation properties. In this paper, the performance of a set of R410A and R22 split-type residential A/C (air conditioner) was compared. The A/C performance studied in this paper included the unit’s cooling capacity, EER (energy efficiency ratio), annual power consumption, global warming impact. It was concluded that R410A could help to decrease the unit’s heat exchanger size, improve energy efficiency, save the power consumption. Moreover, compared to R22, R410A could in fact help alleviate its impact on global warming through reducing its indirect impact.
