DEVELOPMENT OF A NEW DRYING SYSTEM APPLYING A VAPOR COMPRESSION HEAT PUMP-DEVELOPMENT OF A PROTOTYPE SYSTEM

Drying process is important technology in many business fields. However, the conventional drying equipment has many problems such as difficulty in promoting energy saving. Based on this point, purpose of this paper is to introduce a new type of a drying system, which could improve demerits of the conventional drying equipment. In the developed system, a vapor compression heat pump is applied to utilize the exhaust heat from a condenser to heat wet material from a bottom of a closed chamber to generate vapor in the closed chamber. The vapor is dehumidified by an evaporator of the refrigeration cycle – consisting a so-called, heat recovery type drying system. As a refrigerant of the heat pump R410A is used, therefore the new system is free from the ozone depletion. Since in the developed system, it is possible to dry by the condensing temperature, there is no possibility to denature material. In order to compare performance of the developed system, we compared with a conventional hot-air system with electric heater, As a result of the comparison, the developed system has been proved to consume the electrical energy less than about 1/3 of the conventional system to contribute to prevent of global warming.
