Application of Data Dictionary Technique in Intelligent Modeling for Geosciences Database

There is an emerging need to use intelligent approach in modeling the geosciences data because of their characteristics. A novel intelligent modeling approach based on the data dictionary (DD) technique is proposed for geosciences databases. The approach can facilitate the design of geosciences databases, shorten the period of databases constructing, avoid the shortage thai the structure of built databases is unsuitable for restructuring, and share the geosciences information more conveniently. The functions of the data dictionary technique are analyzed and concluded. With the help of the data dictionary technique, the National Standard Terms and Codes are incorporated to aid the design of geosciences database and to serve for the standardization of data models in the modeling process. Furthermore, the related terms and codes data dictionary used for collecting the standardized data and facilitating the sharing of geosciences information, and the model data dictionary of the corresponding database used for supporting possible reconstruction of the database in future, can be provided.
