ERGONOMIC CONSIDERATIONS IN VIRTUAL AND DISTRIBUTED ENVIRONMENT FOR EARLY PRODUCT DESIGN
In this paper, the sense of touch, that is hap tics, is modeled in a computer system for product design perception. With haptics, ergonomic factors such as surface texture, part elasticity that are related to touch can be perceived in the computer system. This paper also highlights the important role of ergonomics in early product design and provides an intuitive approach to customer oriented ergonomic evaluation in early design with the help of haptic rendering techniques. Due to the discrete representation of three dimensional objects in the haptic system, the proposed system can be easily extended to Internet-based collaborative design. A simple architecture for haptic collaboration is proposed.
