A 3.8GHz Fully Integrated Digitally-Controlled LC Oscillator for PHS Transceiver

This paper presents a novel Digitally-Controlled LC Oscillator (DCO) for PHS transceiver. This DCO is more suitable for system integration especially in a deep submicron CMOS process. The oscillator is designed in a 0.18μm CMOS process with a central running frequency of 3.8GHz and 630MHz tuning range. The phase noise at 1.2MHz offset frequency for 3.8GHz is below -128dBc/Hz while drawing 2.5mA of current from a 1.8V supply.
