Analysis of Characteristics of Hearing Loss for Noise Exposed Workers in Iron and Steel industry

Objective To analyze the characteristics of hearing loss for noiseexposed workers in iron and steel industry. Methods A retrospective survey for the noise intensity workers exposed was carried out,at the same time, the hearing loss of noise-exposed workers in the steel mill who participated in the examination from 2000 to 2011 were collected.Depending the SPSS12.0,the data was tested by t-test or one-way ANOVA,Chi-square test, pearson correlation analysis and multiple non-conditional logistic regression analysis. Results 4488 cases included in this study, there were 558 cases(12.4%)who were only high frequency hearing loss,399 cases(8.9%)were high frequency and language frequency hearing loss, abnormal number accounted for 21.3%of the total. The prevalence of hearing loss showed an increasing trend(P<0.05)from 2000 to 2006,and was decreased in 2008,from 2008 to 2011,it was increased again(P<0.05).The length of service, equivalent intensity of noise and cumulative noise exposure were statistically significant(P<0.001)among the normal hearing group, only high frequency hearing loss group, high frequency and language frequency hearing loss group. With the length of service or the cumulative noise exposure increased, the prevalence of hearing loss was raised. The noise intensity was negatively correlated with the length of service at disease onset(P< 0.001).The time of onset for high frequency and language frequency hearing loss was later than high frequency hearing loss.Logistic regression analysis showed that the cumulative noise exposure groups 100~dB(A)·year was the highest risk factors for hearing loss. The cumulative noise exposure groups 90~dB(A)·year,95~dB(A)·year and groups of 20~years,30~years were also risk factors. Conclusion The hearing loss for noise-exposed workers in iron and steel industry was serious. With the length of service, equivalent intensity of noise or(and)cumulative noise exposure increased, the prevalence of hearing loss was raised. The length of noise exposed more than 20 years or(and)the cumulative noise exposure more than 90dB(A)·year was the high-risk factor for hearing loss. The higher the intensity of noise was,the shorter the time of onset for hearing loss was.Noise caused high frequency hearing loss firstly, and then affected language frequency hearing, the average onset time had a difference of about four years.
