Tattoos,Textiles,Monster Faces: Foreign Images among the Finds from the Oglakhty Cemetery,Southern Siberia

In the present paper I would like to consider some objects from the Oglakhty cemetery that can be associated with images of — generally speaking — Chinese origin. These objects connect to each other in terms of their subjects: they both represent images associated with monster masks or animal faces, related to taotie. The first are tattoos on a mummy”s skin and the second is a silk fragment that can be reconstructed as a fabric with animal-head decoration. So the first are locally made drawings and the latter is an imported object; they were found in one and the same tomb.Mentioning them both provides a good opportunity to present here some of our materials, that can be interesting,to my mind, for a Chinese audience.
