Beam Hardening Artifact: Cause and Correction Thchiniques
X-ray computed tomography technology is widely used in industrial nondestructive test, security inspection and medical test because of nondestructive visualization of the internal structure of objects.CT reconstruction algorithm is based on the hypothesis that X-ray sources are monochromatic.However, X-ray sources are polychromatic in industrial CT and medical CT.Because of the polychromaticity, the reconstruction image of CT has beam hardening artifact, called cupping artifact too.Beam hardening correction is an important step to improve the quality of reconstruction images.This paper summarizes different correction schemes for cupping artifact and analyzes the applicability for these schemes.
