Behcet’s disease with aneurysm formation: a treatment challenge for vascular surgeons
Although relatively rare, aneurysms / pseudoaneurysms in Behcet’s disease may raise treatment challenges because of their frequency of recurrence and the risk of life-threatening complications.Herein,we present six patients who underwent repeated operations for recurrent aneurysm and/or pseudoaneurysm formation. The three patients that received medical treatment (glucocorticoids and immunosuppressants) before and after operation exhibited a satisfactory therapeutic result, while the patient surgically treated without any medical intervention during the course of illness had a poor outcome with recurrent aneurysm and pseudoaneurysm formation.Recognition of aneurysms/pseudoaneurysms in Behcet’s disease and proper management of the primary disease is important.Therapeutic principles and techniques should be emphasized, and regular follow-up for all such patients should be recommended.
