The outcome of hepatitis C virus infection and the optimizing treatment for difficult to treatthe treatment for difficult-to-treat patients in China

Hepatitis C virus(HCV)infection is rated by me World Health Organization as a global health problem,based on its prevalence;the high rate of chronicity;severe complications,such as cirrhosis andhepatocellular carcinoma(HCC);as well as the high COSTS ofantiviral therapy and liver transplantation.Screeningmeasures by transfusion organizations,as well as preventive measles,have indeed led to a decreasing incidence ofHCV infections.However,the prevalence offully-developed illnesses and subsequent mortality caused by HCV arerising.Anevaluationofthe riskofprogression to cirrhosisandhepatoeellular carcmoma(HCC) is veryimportant,notonlyformegeneralwelfareofsociety,but also for the individual patient.In order determine the appropriate therapy,studies of the natural course of the disease are necessary.
