Mineralogical evidence for alteration of ultramafic and mafic rocks by a saline-rich fluid prior to UHP metamorphism at Shenglikou in the northern Qaidam Mountains, NW China
The orogenic gamet peridotites at Shenglikou in the northem Qaidam mountains, NW China, were earlier shown to have experienced serpentinization prior to the UHP metamorphism, based on the occurrence of Cl-rich lizardite, brittle mica, Mg-Fe amphibole, actinolite, chlorite, spinel + orthopyroxene symplectite, and calcite in the high-pressure minerals. It was proposed that the peridotite was once serpentinized by brine (sea water) before the UHP metamorphism. The present study investigates a samples of gamet pyroxene rocks (gamet + orthopyroxene +clinopyroxene) and some garnet therzolites.
